Nope Mhore! There are so many people that haven't even heard of the society and just sit in their rooms gaming alone! Its our duty to help find them!
Sounds like they will probably try to fleece you, tho if you don't join and a club runs out of memberships then you probably wont be able to join end of, whereas if you do you'll just be paying to re-validate one. Or alternatively they might be fair and give it to you for free, like they damn well should. Outside that issue, I wouldn't worry about it and join when you become a student.
It is indeed quite valid to use personal experience to illustrate a point; however, can such anecdotes ever really help you arrive at what would be considered a valid conclusion?
